Careers Programme Information

Careers education, information and guidance (CEIAG) makes a major contribution to preparing young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. At Joseph Whitaker we are very proud of our planned programme of activities which enable our students to gain the knowledge and skills needed to make informed choices. manage transitions, and plan their career path. We offer our students:

 

  • Access to support from a specialist Careers Guidance practitioner from the CDI professional register
  • Access to information and advice on choices and opportunities provided by the school and external organisations
  • Structured programmes of support and education around key decision making times (Year 9, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13)
  • A tailored programme of lessons delivered in PSHCE
  • Dedicated information evenings at school to talk to students or deliver group sessions and presentations
  • External providers invited into school to talk to students or deliver group sessions and presentations
  • A Careers Fair at school with a variety to employers an educational providers in attendance
  • An Interview Skills Day
  • Access to a number of careers websites and software, which allows students to explore where their skills and interests can take them in the future
  • Visits to information events and activities
  • Opportunities to gain work experience in Year 10 and in Sixth Form
