Community Sports College

The Joseph Whitaker School became a Specialist Sports College in 2004. The major reasons for the school’s decision to gain specialism in sport was to use our expertise in sport to raise the aspiration, engagement and attainment of all our students, develop our students skills in sport and leadership and sustain our belief that by promoting sport in school we are endorsing a lifelong commitment to health and wellbeing.

Our commitment to sport has been recognised nationally; for example, we are a Gold Partner School for the Youth Sport Trust, the lead school in Nottinghamshire for leadership and volunteering and we are the hub site for the Newark and Sherwood Sports Partnership.

In July 2006 The Joseph Whitaker School took responsibility for the sports facilities on site during evenings, weekends and school holidays. Our main aim is to offer a high quality programme of sports and facilities to all our community whatever their age or ability in order to promote health, wellbeing and social inclusion.

We pride ourselves in working with our partner clubs to support their development, our community to encourage their engagement in sport, our involvement in disability sport and our School Holiday Programmes.

There are plenty of activities for all ages during half-term and throughout November at the Sports College. Please click on the following link to download information: Community Clubs Activity poster 2019
