Extracurricular

Here at The Joseph Whitaker School, it is important that all of our students have access to a wide variety of extra-curricular activities and cultural visits and trips that are offered across all year groups. We understand that it is this mix of an academic diet with cultural and pastoral events that will help students’ educational pathway be motivational, inspirational and memorable.
Joseph Whitaker himself, was nationally recognised for his work in ornithology and the natural world and we believe that students benefit greatly from experiencing the outdoor world through programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award. This is a highly successful and popular programme in the school and we know that students develop resilience, determination and motivation through experiences such as these.
Our school has maintained a strong reputation in the local community for our specialisms in Performing Arts and Sport. On these pages you will be able to find out more about the work that we do with our students in these areas to provide opportunities for students to thrive individually and also appreciate the vast benefits of performing arts and sport in culture and wellbeing today.
In addition to these long established programmes we have a wide variety of extra-curricular and lunchtime clubs offered by teachers ranging from crochet to Dungeons and Dragons. Students can find out more through the Student Bulletin which is updated daily at tutor time.
