Welcome From the Headteacher

Dear Parent/Carer

Welcome to The Joseph Whitaker School, it gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the new Headteacher from 1st September 2020.

It is an absolute privilege to have been appointed by the School Governors and EMET Trustees to lead this wonderful school.  I have been Deputy Headteacher at The Joseph Whitaker School since June 2017, which gives me the advantage of knowing the staff, students and parents very well.  I have been extremely lucky to have an eight-month transition into the Headship role, since being appointed back in December 2019.

This truly is a wonderful school where we cater for all students’ needs and ambitions, whatever their background.  Examination outcomes are strong and we offer a broad and balanced curriculum throughout Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.  In addition to the taught curriculum, we offer a multitude of additional opportunities and I hope that your child takes full advantage of the activities that we have to offer.

I am fully committed to preserving the culture and ethos that exists within the school and I intend to build on the current successes of the school, ensuring that the school maintains its excellent reputation and position at the heart of our local community.

Students must take personal responsibility – their levels of effort and commitment will be reflected in their final examination outcomes. We maintain an ordered and calm environment with high standards of dress.  Equally, students are expected to be polite and courteous at all times.

Everything that we do is intended to enable all students to fulfil their potential. In order to achieve our ambitions we politely request that you provide your unwavering support in ensuring that our high expectations and standards are upheld.  In choosing to send your child to The Joseph Whitaker School you are automatically agreeing to all of our policies and practices; please take some time to familiarise yourselves with our school policies and understand that we are unapologetic in our drive for excellence.

I very much look forward to building a partnership with you so that we may create a culture of mutual support through which, along with regular, effective communication and our dedicated and talented staffing body, we will continue to provide the very best education for each one of our students.

Thank you in anticipation of your continued support.

Warmest regards,

Carey Ayres
