Inset Days 2 and 3 September. First day back in school Wednesday 4 September.

Headteachers Welcome

Our aim is to ensure that The Joseph Whitaker School is an outstanding school that the community can be proud of. We want every pupil to achieve the highest possible academic outcomes and this is our number one priority. We know that this will only happen by providing the highest standards of teaching. We also provide a wide range of opportunities and we value students’ achievements across a variety of areas, including sport, the performing arts and in the wider community.

As Headteacher I am immensely proud of the school and the quality of education it provides. Our aspirations are for the school to ‘Be Outstanding’ in all facets of our provision and to be viewed as an ‘elite school for all’.

Expectations of staff, students and parents are high. We maintain a well ordered and calm environment with high standards of dress. Students are expected to be polite and courteous at all times. Parents and Carers automatically accept our rules and practices by accepting a place at the school.

In December 2015 the school was graded as ‘Good’ by Ofsted. However, we strive for better and from 1 September 2016 we are now part of a multi-academy trust, namely the East Midlands Education Trust (EMET: This will enable us to utilise the expertise of staff from schools within EMET to raise the educational achievement of all children through collaborative working and shared training where appropriate. The talents of schools together become greater than the sum of their parts. The lead school within EMET is The West Bridgford School, an Outstanding school who share the same ethos and values as The Joseph Whitaker School.

The website can only give a flavour of what we do and we welcome visits to the school which can be arranged by contacting the school office. As ever, please do not hesitate to contact me in relation to any school matters.
