Meet the Heads of House

Clumber House

Welcome to Year 7.  My name is Mrs Pettifor and I am your Head of House.  You stay in the same house the whole way through secondary school and your house is Clumber House.  I am excited to meet you all individually when you start here at The Joseph Whitaker School.

I imagine you are equally excited and nervous about  secondary school – don’t worry you’ll settle in quickly.  Clumber House is open and friendly, we support each other, look out for one another and always take part in inter-house competitions and activities.

As a House we understand that it is okay to sometimes make mistakes as it’s how we learn. We’re always honest with each other because that’s what family does. We believe that success is no accident! It is the result of hard work, resilience, teamwork, learning, sacrifice and a love of what you are doing – we are here to support you with that. So, with all that in mind, enjoy your summer – we look forward to seeing you.

Newstead House

Hello Year 6.  My name is Miss Godwin and I am Head of Newstead House alongside Mrs Riding.  I have been teaching at The Joseph Whitaker School for 20 years now and I love it here – I am sure you will too.  I teach Religious Studies and Philosophy and Ethics – hopefully, I will get the opportunity to teach many of you.  I am also lucky enough to work with the Diana Award Anti Bullying Ambassadors and the Pride group in school.

There are so many ways to get involved in school life at our school – from house competitions, to sports activities, lots of different groups like Girl Up and trips to take part in too. I cannot wait to see you all involved in every aspect of school life. I am really looking forward to meeting you all.  Welcome to Newstead.

Hello Year 6. My name is Mrs Riding and I share the role of Head of Newstead with Miss Godwin. As well as being Head of House, I am also a PE teacher- in fact, I have already met lots of you on a Wednesday afternoon during your PE sessions.

One of the best things about Joseph Whitaker is all the opportunities available for the students, from sports clubs, to the dance competition, the school show and much more. I would encourage you to get involved in as many different clubs as you can as it is great way to meet people with similar interest to you!

Until then, stay safe and please come and find me if you have any concerns or worries

Rufford House

Hi there! May I be the first to congratulate you in being placed in the greatest, most ambitious and (certainly) most fun House in The Joseph Whitaker School: Rufford House! My name is Mr Moore, and I will be your Head of House when you move up to our school. I am really excited to meet you, and know that your presence will make Rufford even better than it already is!

As well as being an English and Media teacher, my job is to make sure your time at the school is as enjoyable as possible. Along with your tutor, I will be there to support you in any way that I can, and to encourage you take part in all the exciting things the school has to offer.

Before I finish: here are 3 things about me to help us get talking when I finally get to meet you:

1. I love music and film

2. I really enjoy playing sport (football and running, in particular!)

3. I always love to hear a good joke (the cheesier, the better!).

Take care, enjoy the summer and see you soon!

Sherwood House

May I be the first to say a warm welcome and know how lucky you are to be a member of Sherwood House – the best of course!  My name is Miss Roberts and I will be your Head of House, a position I absolutely love, as I am able to support and celebrate your achievements. We are a house that ‘makes a difference’ and as such I will be asking you to step-up and be part of the Sherwood family.

We are a House that has 3 guiding principles; we support each other, we are proud to be who we are and we believe that the only person holding us back is ourselves.  We have a ‘can do’ spirit that is wrapped in determination and support.

I have worked at The Joseph Whitaker School for quite some time, it is a great place with friendly pupils and staff. I need your help to continue to make Sherwood great and I am sure with your contribution it certainly will. I really look forward to meeting you and in the meantime stay safe and see you soon.
