Meet the Leadership Team

Mr Brookes – Deputy Headteacher

Safeguarding, Inclusion and Behaviour

My job is overseeing all of the pastoral care in the school, ensuring that everyone is happy and feels safe here.  Part of this job involves overseeing the rewards and behaviour systems. The rewards programme is a great part of my job, but I also have to address any misbehaviour of students –this is not a fun part of my job.  You will see me around the school as I am often in classrooms checking on how students are doing.

I have a fantastic pastoral team who will look after you throughout your time here. This team includes the Heads of House, tutors, mentors and student services; all of these people will work very hard to ensure you enjoy your time with us.  This is a good school with a great reputation for pastoral care, which I am very proud of.  #Proud to be me. Proud to be us.

Mr Croft – Deputy Headteacher

Staffing, Sixth Form and Curriculum Impact

The main aspect of my role is maintaining the high teaching standards. This involves the organisation of all the quality assurance procedures, which means that I will have the great pleasure of reviewing the outstanding work that you will produce.  I will get the chance to witness your learning first hand when I observe the excellent teaching that takes place here at Joseph Whitaker.  You will see me around the school, as I am often outside at lunchtime in the quad area chatting to students about their day.

I am also a History teacher and so I am very proud of the strong traditions that the school holds, particularly our annual Remembrance Service.  #Proud to be me. Proud to be us.

Mr Gomersall – Assistant Head

Data Protection Officer, Timetabling and Logistics

Whole school timetabling is the central part of my job; I am responsible for ensuring that everyone in school is in the correct place at the right time. To support you with this, I create for you a personal timetable, which includes your teachers’ names and the room numbers for each of your lessons.

As a Technology Teacher, I am proud that the school has held a World Record for a student made Rocket Car that travelled at 533.1mph.  #Proud to be me. Proud to be us.

Miss Hasnip – Assistant Head

Key Stage 4 Achievement and Intervention

Supporting students in their progress, attainment and achievement in Years 10 and 11 is my role in school. You will see me popping in and out of your lessons, as I like to ensure that Year 7 students are developing strong foundations in their learning.

Being a History teacher, I am fond of the past, but I am most proud when I am having conversations with our students about their plans for the future before and on GCSE results day. #Proud to be me. Proud to be us.

Mrs Souter – Assistant Head

Teaching and Learning Development

The role I have in school is to foster a highly effective learning environment across the school, through the continued professional development of staff. I am honoured to be working closely with the excellent teachers on how we can use educational research to make your learning experiences more engaging, varied and enriching. You will see me in your lessons asking you about learning experiences.

The personal development we offer our students through the opportunities such as: House Council Reps, Girls Up, Brilliant Boys, Peer Mentors, Healthy Lifestyle Champions and Sports Captains alongside their developments in the classrooms are what I am most proud of.  #Proud to be me. Proud to be us.

Mr Watson – Assistant Head

School Specialism and Key Stage 3 Achievement and Intervention

Supporting students in their progress, attainment and achievement in Years 7, 8 and 9 is my role in school. I oversee the Hackney programmes and the Catch Up Literacy and Catch Up Numeracy provision that we have in place to support some students who might have gaps in their learning from Key Stage 2.

I am most proud of the school’s specialism, that provides students with first class equipment and facilities, along with the opportunities to learn to play an instrument, perform on a stage/sports field or participate in leadership activities.  #Proud to be me Proud to be us.

Mrs Darnbrough – Director of Resources

HR and Support Services

An aspect of my job is managing and coordinating the support staff within school, which makes sure that the school is functioning efficiently.

I am proud of the team every day. The incredible site team that make the site safe and clean for our students to use, the wonderful catering team that will provide our students with their daily break and lunch options, the amazing administration team who ensure that students’ attendance is monitored, their ParentPay is processed and our students’ school reports and exam results are issued on time.  #Proud to be me. Proud to be us.

Mrs Hamilton – PA to the Headteacher

Marketing and Communications Officer and Office Manager

My job is to assist the Headteacher in ensuring that Joseph Whitaker is a highly effective School. Another part of my role is making sure the schools’ communications are up to date with all the events and activities that you can take part in during the academic year.

I feel particularly proud when I update social media with our students’ amazing accomplishments, either in school or within the community. #Proud to be me. Proud to be us.
