Level 3 Extended Project Qualification

Equivalent in size to half an A Level. This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A-Levels.

What is the Extended Project Qualification?

  • An optional qualification that is equivalent to 0.5 of an A-level. A possible extra 28 UCAS points.
  • An independent project, either in the form of a dissertation, field study, artefact or performance.
  • You will be taught how to produce the project and given step-by-step support.
  • The topic/content is entirely up to you – your opportunity to develop and explore your own area of
    interest.

How Am I Assessed?

  • Dissertation – A theoretical written project on any topic presenting an argument, eg research into a
    biological, historical or environmental issue.
  • Investigation/Field Study – a practical investigatory project involving the collection of data, eg a
    scientific investigation, a geographical study of erosion, a biological study of pollution, a statistical
    survey .
  • Performance – development of practical skills resulting in a performance, eg performing music,
    drama, sport .
  • Artefact – for example, making a painting or sculpture, designing a piece of furniture or a garment,
    creating a website, solving an engineering/construction problem.

Learners are Required To:

  • Select a topic/area of interest for an in-depth study that provides
    opportunities to develop skills, knowledge and understanding.
  • Attend weekly sessions to liaise with the project supervisor.
  • Keep to set deadlines.
  • Deliver a presentation at the end of the project to a small audience
