The Joseph Whitaker School prides itself on being a very inclusive school and we try our utmost to make sure that the provision for students with special educational needs is good.
The four broad “areas of need” are:
Reasonable adjustments and support are put into place wherever possible to help students with SEND to achieve their academic potential and access the curriculum fully.

Our SEND Policy is currently due for review. As a Trust, we are awaiting the publication of the forthcoming Government White Paper and associated statutory guidance relating to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
In order to ensure that our policy fully reflects the most up‑to‑date national expectations, legislation and best practice, we have taken the decision to pause our formal review until this guidance is published.
In the meantime:
The school continues to meet all current statutory duties under the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice (2015). Provision for pupils with SEND remains fully in place and under regular review. Pupils with SEND will continue to be supported according to their individual needs through high‑quality, inclusive teaching and appropriate interventions. The existing SEND Policy remains in force until a revised policy is formally approved and published.
Once the national guidance is released, the Trust will review and update the SEND Policy accordingly and make it available on this website.
