🌟 Lest We Forget 🌟

Today, our whole school gathered for our annual Remembrance Memorial Service.

To have over 1350 students and staff observing the solemn two minutes of silence together was truly incredible and incredibly moving. It was a powerful display of respect and unity.

The 40 students that have recently visited France and Belgium Battlefields, laid a wreath on behalf of the school. A meaningful way to honor the fallen where they rest.

We remember.

A day of profound reflection on the Western Front. 🇫🇷🇧🇪 A truly impactful experience walking the hallowed grounds of World War One battlefields.

We stood in awe at Vimy Ridge and walked the trenches at Newfoundland Park and Sanctuary Wood, imagining the impossible conditions. The scale of the loss at the Battle of the Somme was brought home at Thiepval and the enormous Lochnagar Crater.

We paused to honor the fallen at cemeteries like Tyne Cot and Langemark, and remembered the stories of individuals at Essex Farm.

Tonight, we finish this emotional journey by participating in the moving Last Post Ceremony at Menin Gate. We will never forget their sacrifice.

This week we have been focusing on ‘Belonging’ by inviting speakers in to share personal and inspirational stories. This is part of a whole school focus on Belonging and ensuring every child feels seen and heard in school.

Ricardo from Inner Spark shared the idea of ‘ubunto’ with years8 and 9. Ben McPherson, an actor worked with Key Stage 4 and 5 Drama. Nottingham Girls Academy students presented to year 7 their own heartfelt stories about belonging. We then had two workshops where our students shared stories and started the exciting project of an Equality group.

We also had the incredible experience of BAFTA winner Mawaan Rizwan and Nabhan Rizwan Actors and Writers join year 12 via zoom to answer questions about their careers. They commented "What a great class! Please keep us updated on their progress" "Well, that was lovely!"
